Storm In The BJD Cup- Naveen Braces To Hold The Spill Within

It’s a situation when every political opponent would love for the expedient use of euphemism to add fuel to the fire and exactly that happened.

The current situation in the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) offers a significant bounty of material to all who care for incisive reportage. That can leave the party chief and the chief minister to brace up against the canon of a fresh series of unpleasant observations on the party and government’s functioning since years.

The most prominent among the disgruntled is the high-profile member of parliament from Kendrapada Bijayant Panda who has donned the garb of a virtual patron-saint for last two to three years through his spirited political reviews subtly praising the NDA and simultaneously making some of the most scathing political take-downs to the pattern of functioning in the BJD. Panda has somehow fuelled a notional situation when analysts foresee a hypothesized exit of Panda from the BJD and entry into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) before 2019. Or he may be fired soon!

The latest flash in the pan was when Panda was facing an allegedly politically sponsored tactics of intimidation during the inauguration of an overhead water tank in a place called Buhalo in Kendrapada. This time, like never before, his gun was trained at the third-floor in the State Secretariat, the most envied citadel of power where the chief minister allegedly rules through his official advisers. Apart from the political rivals, Panda was more critical about the role of a certain official in the 3rd floor who meddles in political matters.

Not only Panda who has been a victim of the emetic potion of the third-floor bureaucratic bandwagon but another BJD leader and former MLA Ramaranjan Baliarsingh on last Thursday resigned from the BJD almost for similar reasons like that of Panda. Baliarsingh was clearly tough on the top boss saying that Patnaik has ‘ lost control over the party ‘ and things are being run by bureaucrats that may become a reliable liability for Naveen Patnaik very soon.

It’s a situation when every political opponent would love for the expedient use of euphemism to add fuel to the fire and exactly that happened. The Odisha BJP was quick to create the windstorm for instability within the BJD by saying that much more from the BJD is in touch with them and before 2019 an influx is imminent. It is a different matter that in politics some lies are used to diminish the credibility or charisma of a leadership. But the mind game is being played at the right time.

If there is a truth then mere rhetorical fence-mending is not going to help the ruling party here and neither the leadership can sleep in any recuperative silence before such a propagated deluge . Right from 2004 onwards till 2012 political corridors were overflowing with the allegations that an ex-bureaucrats was at the driver’s seat thus virtually insulating the real boss from the course of governance. Now also a similar picture has emerged where critiques are being used to create the much needed turmoil to upset the BJD.

Patnaik, on the other hand, has demonstrated the resilience to fight back after the last rural poll shocks, now has to revisit his political repertoire to placate the ruffled psyches within than merely walking under a canopy allegedly held by few mandarins or occasional sel-fie posturing .

BJD or for that matter Naveen Patnaik has a matchless record of taking advantage of Biju legacy and this time too he seems ready to plaster the city with Biju colours on the eve of a commemoration on Biju Patnaik for which top national leaders from all hue are being invited. Which includes former president of India Pranab Mukherjee, L.K. Advani and former PM Deve Gowda and so on. Surely a high-voltage political event that can help to build up the myth about Patnaik’s invincibility and present him as the bearer of people’s burden and their future.

Whatever steps taken for the damage control but for Naveen Patnaik it is battle in the company of perpetual crisis .
