TESS-India project to be launched in five districts of Odisha

There are also plans to create a state resource group to develop Odia massive open online course (MOOC) for secondary school teachers. The capacity of teachers will be enhanced through a massive open online course, open educational resources and teacher development units in different schools of these districts. Directorate of Teacher Education and State Council of Educational Research and Training (TE & SCERT) is the nodal agency for implementation of the project in the state. BHUBANESWAR: In a bid to improve teaching abilities of school teachers in Odisha government has decided to implement TESS (Teacher Education through School-based Support) programme in all schools of one block each in five districts. The programme will be implemented in districts like Khorda, Kandhamal, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, and Rayagada.A state resource group comprising of teacher educators and officers involved in teacher training on development and use of open educational resources have also been formed.

The capacity of teachers will be enhanced through a massive open online course, open educational resources and teacher development units in different schools of these districts."The main objective of the programme is to promote a change of teacher education through a cost-effective and scalable approach focusing on the practical challenges of pedagogy and teacher classroom practice," an official source said.The programme will also provide on-site academic support to teachers, upgrade curriculums of teachers training courses and strengthen mentoring at the school level. Directorate of Teacher Education and State Council of Educational Research and Training (TE & SCERT) is the nodal agency for implementation of the project in the state. The programme will be implemented in districts like Khorda, Kandhamal, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, and Rayagada.A state resource group comprising of teacher educators and officers involved in teacher training on development and use of open educational resources have also been formed. As many as 125 teacher development units (TDUs) for subjects like mathematics, science and school leadership have been formed.The project has envisaged adaptation of TESS-India open education resources (OER) by the Sarva Sikshya Abhiyan (SSA) for its teacher training programme and to prepare a special module on the use of OERs and other online materials for teachers.As a part of the programme, the education administrators will also be trained on a regular basis on academic supervision and leadership using TESS materials. There are also plans to create a state resource group to develop Odia massive open online course (MOOC) for secondary school teachers.
