Kandhamal dacoity gang leader arrested from city

BERHAMPUR: Police on Monday arrested the leader of a dacoity gang, which committed crimes in different areas of Kandhamal district, from Bhubaneswar. "With him, we have arrested two out of seven persons, who had tried to commit the dacoity in the village. Earlier police had arrested Ajaya Patra, another gang member, on December 18," said officer in-charge, Phiringia police station, Dhiren Behera . Of the seven members, two of them wore police uniform, and they used a four-wheeler, looking like a police vehicle, Behera said. Search is on to nab other five accused persons, he said.Police suspected they might have entered a house of the village with an intention to loot ganja.

BERHAMPUR: Police on Monday arrested the leader of a dacoity gang, which committed crimes in different areas of Kandhamal district, from Bhubaneswar. The accused has been identified as Rajan Sahani , 26, of Sarakui under Phiringia police station.Sahani, a ganja peddler and a dacoit, was earlier arrested in four different cases, including illegal transportation of ganja in Phulbani town and Kolkata, attempt to murder and dacoity in Phiringia, police said. He was caught by the villagers while he along with six others tried to commit a dacoity at Pangamaha under Phiringia police station on December 17 night.He, however, escaped from the police custody while being taken from the village to the police station on December 18.Acting on a tip-off, a special police team arrested Sahani from the capital. "With him, we have arrested two out of seven persons, who had tried to commit the dacoity in the village. Earlier police had arrested Ajaya Patra, another gang member, on December 18," said officer in-charge, Phiringia police station, Dhiren Behera . Search is on to nab other five accused persons, he said.Police suspected they might have entered a house of the village with an intention to loot ganja. They entered into a house for raid posing themselves as police personnel. Of the seven members, two of them wore police uniform, and they used a four-wheeler, looking like a police vehicle, Behera said.
