Disparity on both sides has exploded now turning to a blind rage. The spat between the Chief minister and Baijayant Panda undisputedly is the epicentre which has come closer to a political thunder and the waves breaking on both side. One at a news channel owned by Panda and on the other side, hitting hard at the official residence of the most discussed private secretary to the CM.
The fault line had developed long back but the tremor is felt now and made more difficult after the Kunduli tragedy and subsequently culminating in a cow dung warfare. Worse is yet to come as issues emerge and resurface in the days ahead. Battle lines are already drawn.
The ruling dispensation has now discovered rot in that channel, which for years sang paeans for the BJD, mainly after the fissures between the two leaders. And the subtle shifting focus of the channel was glaringly noticeable since about a year or more now resorting to hard take downs at the BJD that has goes more and more caustic. .
The tenors displayed by the news anchors during the debates in particular, can not escape any intelligent viewer`s notice. It`s quite explicit and sometimes upfront. However that is their prerogative and so, no party can grudge it it`s editorial freedom.
If the channel went extra length over the alleged manipulation of the Kunduli medical report , why the ruling party should breathe fires and brimstones one doesn`t know.
But the said channel also should not take any high moral ground as the only harbinger of the cause although till the recent years it was different , giving enough political cushion for the BJD .
Why did the BJD notice the evil with the channel is anybody`s guess. Why there is a perceptible shift in the focus of the channel, one need not go far to find out the reason.
Bijepur by-poll apart, closer comes the time for the general election in 2019 both sides would would work hard for the rest days on end to checkmate each other , deftly calibrating the strategies with carefully nuanced attacks. But, since the channel in question is undoubtedly the most viewed one ,so far, the BJD must be in search of a desperately required alternate handle to counter the friend- turned-foe . Because, viewers matter the most.
It is no mere respite for the ruling party that other media houses now slowly sticking their necks out and a few of them are quickly prioritising the basics while one channel , in particular, that is nearly breathing down the neck of Panda- owned channel in rating, carefully treading the path to demonstrate a balanced tone.
The latter was at a kind of loggerheads with the former post a fire mishap that claimed so many lives in a hospital owned by the same chain. Then the former had gone hammer and tongue with volley of attacking reports that the latter found too hard `at that juncture, to shake off so easily.The difference is one has travelled long years and the other has not gone half of the miles. But nothing is permanent .
Panda`s channel expectedly continues to defy Naveen`s displeasure and it may continue to do so over the display of freedom of speech. The division is not difficult to fathom.
