BHUBANESWAR: Farmers of Jajpur district on Monday staged a demonstration near the office of the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), an engineering company of Indian Railways, here demanding construction of a road under-bridge (RUB) on the Haridaspur-Paradip new line near Gobandia village under Badachana block in Jajpur district.The group led by Navnirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS), an outfit of farmers, said the new line divides their village with their farm land. “If the villagers want to go to their farm land, they need to cross the rail line. It will be very dangerous to cross the line every day for agricultural work. So they need a RUB or underpass near Badheidanda of Gobandia village,” said Akshaya Kumar, NKS coordinator.Kumar said the farmers have been demanding for the underpass during last three years, but nobody pays heed to their pleas. “Despite Jajpur collector Ranjan Kumar Das’s letter to RVNL for an amicable solution to the issue, nothing is materialized yet,” he added.The farmer leader said they will take the issue to the streets if the RVNL does not construct a RUB at Gobandia. “As the construction work of project is under way, it will be easy for the agency to give an underpass there,” he added.Pradeep Kumar Mohanty, chief project manager-II of RVNL, Bhubaneswar, said he has already received a memorandum from the farmers about the issue. “I will put up the issue before the board meeting and discuss about this in detail. If board agrees to the proposal, we can give a RUB at the particular place,” he added.
