Money stashed in CM grievance cell for Bijepur bypoll, alleges BJP

BHUBANESWAR: The BJP on Wednesday alleged that BJD has stored money in three suitcases inside the Chief Minister’s Grievance Cell here to spend it in the Bijepur by-poll.A delegation led by party’s state vice-president Samir Mohanty submitted a memorandum to chief electoral officer Surendra Kumar here urging him to conduct raid on the grievance cell and recover money kept inside it.“As the BJD is in power, it illegally uses the government machineries to win in the election. The money was brought in a car on Tuesday to keep it in the grievance cell. The room key is in the hand of a non-Odia bureaucrat,” said Mohanty.The party leader said the government officers should not help the politicians to commit the illegal thing. “My party demanded stringent action against BJD and chief minister Naveen Patnaik for this illegal activity,” he added.Party spokesperson Dilip Mohanty said the Election Commission needs to probe the matter to know the source of the money stashed in the cell. “It is violating poll code,” he added.BJD spokesperson Pratap Keshari Deb lashed out at BJP for bringing false allegation against party and his leader. “The allegation leveled by the BJP is laughable and ridiculous. CM’s grievance cell is an open house where everybody goes. It is their tactics to divert the attention from their failure in the Bijepur bypoll,” he added.Deb said the leaders of the saffron party are scared of BJD’s success in the bypoll. “People love our party and they will support us. BJP is trying to befool the people by creating false and baseless allegations against us,” he added.The bypoll for Bijepur assembly segment will be held on Saturday. The high-decibel campaign will end by Thursday evening. Three major parties BJD, BJP and Congress have high hopes to win the bypoll.
