Resolve water dispute, Centre tells Mahanadi tribunal

BHUBANESWAR: The Centre on Monday notified a three-member tribunal chaired by Supreme Court judge A M Khanwilkar to resolve the Mahanadi water-sharing dispute between Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
'The Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal' will be headquartered in New Delhi.
Hearing a petition of the Odisha government in December 2016, the apex court had asked the Union government to form the tribunal under the provisions of the Inter-State River Water Disputes Act, 1956.
Other members of the tribunal are Patna High Court (HC) judge Ravi Ranjan and Delhi HC judge Indermeet Kaur Kochhar, the notification issued by the Union ministry of water resources said.On February 20, the Union cabinet had approved a proposal to form the tribunal as per a Supreme Court direction on January 23.
