President Kovind asks IIT students to avail benefits of government schemes

BHUBANESWAR: President of India Ram Nath Kovind asked graduating students of IIT Bhubaneswar to avail the benefits of government of India’s schemes that encourage innovation and entrepreneurship. He expressed satisfaction over the growth of IIT Bhubaneswar as it has doubled its intake capacity in past two years and has the highest intake capacity among second and third generation IITs. “Being bright technocrats I am sure that many of you would consider setting up your own ventures to give shape to your innovations. “This will not be an easy task but it is not impossible either,” he added.

Being an IITian you should aspire to achieve the best not only for yourself and your families but also for society and the nation and world at large.”Kovind advised IIT Bhubaneswar to chart a roadmap and aspire to be the best in all areas like teaching, research, social impact or having the best of infrastructure. “This will not be an easy task but it is not impossible either,” he added. He expressed satisfaction over the growth of IIT Bhubaneswar as it has doubled its intake capacity in past two years and has the highest intake capacity among second and third generation IITs. Besides, he praised that 80% of the graduating students have secured jobs in core-sector companies.As many as 295 graduating students of 2017 batch received their degrees on the occasion including 14 PhD, 60 Mtech, 71 MSc, and 150 BTech students.Union Human Resource Development minister for states Satyapal Singh said the has launched Revitalizing Infrastructure Systems in Education (RISE), which aimed to provide financial assistance up to Rs one lakh crore over a period of four years to IITs, NITs, IISERs.“Institutes like IITs should find its place in the 100 top global institutes of higher learning. This needs multiple attentions like international students and faculties presence in Indian institutes, research and innovation at par with the best institutes in the world, physical facilities second to none,” Singh added.He also lauded the research work in IIT Bhubaneswar undertaken on the wide range of topics from fundamentals to applied areas of immense importance specifically utilization of industrial waste for developing environmental friendly geopolymer concrete using red mud and fly ash which could be useful in making eco-friendly buildings, bridges, roads and other long-lasting physical assets.Among others governor of Odisha S C Jamir, union petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan, chairman board of governors of IIT Pankaj Ramanbhai Patel, director of the institute R V Raja Kumar were present on the occasion.
