Jay Panda Need Not Sacrifice But Recalibrate His Political Course

  • | Monday | 14th May, 2018

There is an uneasy quiet in the BJD rebel camp and it is very palpable. They must have realised that a brief stint of silence may earn for them a moment of reversal of further adversities. Rebellion doesn`t mean taking the bull by the horn always. Rather a thought for course- correction, if need be, may help to avoid further political isolation or marginalisation in public life.

Let`s not assume that, course correction would mean surrender or genuflection.

It would be like being economical with the truth while talking of rebellion or straight-speaking within the BJD, one doesn`t mention the name of Baijayant Jay Panda who was recently dislodged from the ruling party for anti-party activities. Such culmination was predictable that in any party might have happened. We can not call it a political ignominy but a usual epilogue of such a prolonged discord.

Others in such camp seem to have gone back to their hives for some time engaging themselves in either introspection or rebuilding measures.

But for Jay Panda, given the limelight, relevance and opportunities he had enjoyed during his days in BJD, his case is different and he has many reasons to be concerned about his new road ahead he has in mind to redesign, rather than allowing his political image being roughened by stumps of staleness. Age and energy is obviously on his side but he must rediscover the political acumen to whether more of adverse crosswinds from the BJD and make a polite way out of the quagmire of confrontation.

When the fissures emerged between the topmost executive of the State and Jay Panda, a section of media went overboard to hold briefs in his favour thus almost prodding him to feel being in cloud nine as if a majority from within the party was cheering him up from the sidelines. But that was not the fact. Conviction is only a luxury of sideliners! That Jay Panda might have failed to notice.

Any government of the day is very powerful and one can only feel the terrors of such isolation when one faces the headwinds from the powers-that-be.

As regards Naveen Patnaik, he keeps going back to the drawing board before each step he takes, so, his decision to sideline Jay Panda and others were obviously not minus the required political calibration strategically. On top of that his political stance to face the possible blitzkrieg from 2019 so far seems on a reasonably sound footing. Voters are unpredictable and strange and the BJD so far is one of the most experienced ones.

Being in a state of marginalisation it is very tough to manipulate minds and in politics it more complex like risking falling flat on ones face if done in a haste.

Jay Panda is not such a novice to take sermons but he has assiduously to recalibrate his future course by taking refuge in self-composure. Rather than recollecting blow by blow accounts of the past. But surely not sacrifice that is meaningless in the present politics.
