Heat prompts government to extend school holidays

BHUBANESWAR: The state government announced that summer vacations in schools will be extended by three days in view of the extreme heat in the state.Schools were originally supposed to open on June 17. "I hope we see some rain by June 20. The extension of the holidays is good news for my son," said Antaryami Pradhan , the father of a primary school-goer.On Saturday, mercury-levels at eight places hovered above 40 degree C. The capital city, however, saw thundershowers in the afternoon.
