But the minister pointed finger at the boatman and his boat.“The boat’s condition was not good and it has holes. The report has mentioned about the condition of the boat,” said Sahu.

The passenger carrying vessels have to keep life jackets and lifebuoys adequately. Registration of the boats is being renewed every year. But we will streamline the process,” he added.In the meeting, the officials discussed about deploying a boat ambulance to help the victims of boat tragedy. It is mandatory for tourists to wear life jackets before starting their boat journey, said a senior bureaucrat.Earlier in the day, commerce and transport minister Nrusingha Charan Sahu held the boat and its owner responsible for the Chilika boat tragedy that killed six tourists on June 16.On Friday, transport secretary G Srinivas had told media that the boat got capsized due to the impact of ‘heavy wind’. He had ruled out the technical glitches in the boat. But the minister pointed finger at the boatman and his boat.“The boat’s condition was not good and it has holes. The report has mentioned about the condition of the boat,” said Sahu.
