The curtains will come down on the Rath Yatra on July 25, with the entry of the sibling deities into the sanctum sanctorum, marking the Niladri Bije festival. The nine-day festival, which commences on Saturday, comes in the backdrop of a series of controversies surrounding the Jagannath Temple's functioning. As per the June 8 order of the Supreme Court, we will not allow servitors to collect dakshina from devotees.

But when the chariot festival starts, everything will be pushed to the backburner as the sibling deities make their way through the crowds to the Gundicha Temple, believed to be their birthplace.Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra are scheduled to stay at the Gundicha Temple till July 21 and set out towards the Jagannath Temple on Bahuda Yatra (return journey) on July 22.Chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra during the final leg of preparation ahead of Rath Yatra festival , in PuriThe deities will be decked in gold - the Suna Besha - on chariots to the Jagannath Temple on July 23. The curtains will come down on the Rath Yatra on July 25, with the entry of the sibling deities into the sanctum sanctorum, marking the Niladri Bije festival. More than Rs 3.5 crore has been spent for this year's Rath Yatra.The three-km-long Grand Road, down which the three chariots will roll, amid the cheers of a million people on Saturday, is already abound in religious fervour. The pulling of the chariots is scheduled to start on Saturday between 3.30 pm and 4 pm, following the ceremonial chherapahanra (sweeping of the chariot decks) by Puri king Dibyasingha Deb, called 'the first servitor of the deities'.Chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra during the final leg of preparation ahead of Rath Yatra festival"Devotees are strictly prohibited from climbing the chariots. As per the June 8 order of the Supreme Court, we will not allow servitors to collect dakshina from devotees.
