Nandighosa chariot reaches Gundicha temple after halt

BHUBANESWAR: Pulling of Lord Jagannath’s chariot Nandighosa that stopped in the middle on Saturday, resumed amid heavy downpour at Grand Road in Puri on Sunday.Braving the intermittent rain, devotees and policemen pulled the chariot to Gundicha temple from Balagandi Chhak on Sunday morning. The chariots of Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra had reached Gundicha temple on Saturday.The Medical Square on Grand Road where the chariots were being pulled witnessed waterlogging for a few hours. The MeT office has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coastal town in the next 25 hours. The deities will be taken into the sanctum sanctorum of the temple on Monday.“I feel lucky and blessed that I got a chance to pull the chariot of Lord Jagannath without whom will nothing can happen in this world. The geographical position of the Medical Square is such that water from all parts of the town accumulates there and within a few minutes of rain, the place gets flooded.

He has his unique way of making his presence felt and to reach his devotees,” said Satyabrata Biswal, a devotee from Dhenkanal.The pulling of the chariot began at around 9.15 am after the Daitapati servitors performed various rituals like Mangala Aarti and Abakashaof the Lord. The chariots of Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra had reached Gundicha temple on Saturday.The Medical Square on Grand Road where the chariots were being pulled witnessed waterlogging for a few hours. The Puri Municipality claimed to have taken several measures to ensure that there will be no waterlogging during Rath Yatra “We cleared major choking points across the town and also all the main drains before the festival. The geographical position of the Medical Square is such that water from all parts of the town accumulates there and within a few minutes of rain, the place gets flooded. We have employed around 100 sanitary staff for the Grand Road alone, who worked really fast to drain the water and prevent water logging,” said chairman of Puri Municipality, Jayant Sarangi.Puri received 70 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Sunday and 74 mm between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm on Sunday. The MeT office has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coastal town in the next 25 hours. “We are ready with six water pumps to pump out the water if it rains very heavily,” Sarangi added.The pilgrim town flooded with devotees as heavy rush was witnessed on the Grand Road, at sea beach, and other places of visit.
