BHUBANESWAR: As the Smart City went under water on Monday, opposition BJP and Congress came down heavily on the ruling BJD government for failing to improve its drainage system State Congress president Niranjan Patnaik shared a video showing waterlogging in the city on Twitter and said: "Distressing and depressing visuals from Bhubaneswar after today's rain. The BJD government in the state and the BJD-led BMC have completely failed the people. Is this the Smart City you brag about, Mr CM?"He also shared a picture of children studying in a dilapidated school in Ganjam and taking a potholed road to school in Subarnapur to corner the government. BJP also criticized the government for poor management of urban drainage."The government has miserably failed to regulate and manage the rain and waste water in urban areas. People blamed it on the poor drainage and sewerage system.Housing and urban development minister Niranjan Pujari said, "We have called an emergency meeting to resolve the problem at the earliest. Things will not change overnight. Situation in the city is improving by the day."
