"Recently, when there was waterlogging around ISCKON temple, Naveen tried to pass the buck to the Centre by hastily writing a letter to highways minister Nitin Gadkari . However, whom will he blame for water inside Kedargouri Temple here on Saturday?," Mohapatra said.Mohapatra said minister Ashok Panda has tried to pass the buck because the historic Kedargouri temple is in his assembly segment.

BHUBANESWAR: The massive waterlogging in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack gave rise to political blamegame with the opposition BJP and Congress targeting the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD government for the unprecedented situation in the twin cities.Much to the opposition's delight, tourism and culture minister Ashok Panda blamed encroachment of drains by influential people, including government officers, responsible for the predicament."I shouldn't be saying this but vested interests, including some government officers, are to blame. They have encroached upon drains and built boundary walls," Panda told reporters here.Addressing a news conference, BJP spokesperson Golak Prasad Mohapatra said the mess in Bhubaneswar was result of 19 years of inaction of the Naveen Patnaik-government."Recently, when there was waterlogging around ISCKON temple, Naveen tried to pass the buck to the Centre by hastily writing a letter to highways minister Nitin Gadkari . However, whom will he blame for water inside Kedargouri Temple here on Saturday?," Mohapatra said.Mohapatra said minister Ashok Panda has tried to pass the buck because the historic Kedargouri temple is in his assembly segment. "He should explain as being the local MLA what he has done," the BJP leader said. Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president Niranjan Patnaik too flayed Naveen for the situation."As the common man suffers, the CM is busy with his 'high level' meetings. The result of the sloppiness and negligence of BJD is on full display in Bhubaneswar since the last few days and it doesn't look very smart," Niranjan tweeted even as Naveen reviewed the situation.Apart the low-lying area such as Acharya Vihar, Beherasahi, Sundarpada and Old Town, areas such as Sailashree VIhar, Damana and Patrapada, which do not face waterlogging were inundated.Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena said after over 220 mm rainfall in less than 18 hours, the entire workforce of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) swung into action helping the deluged city emerge out of the situation. "All possible steps are being steps to lessen people's sufferings," he said. The mayor said in view of the forecast of continued heavy rain, similar operations will continue on Sunday and day after.
