Monsoon session of Odisha assembly to begin from September 4

BHUBANESWAR: The monsoon session of the state assembly will commence from September 4. The 11-day session would continue till September 20.The assembly secretariat issued notification in this regard on Wednesday following approval by the governor of Odisha In a departure from usual practice, the supplementary budget for 2018-19 financial year will be tabled in the monsoon session. State finance minister Shashi Bhusan Behera would present the supplementary budget on September 4, official sources said.The supplementary budget was earlier tabled in the winter session of the assembly held in November and December every year.“As the state government has announced several new schemes in view of the forthcoming elections, fund allocations will be made in advance in the supplementary budget for smooth implementation of the schemes,” said a finance department official requesting anonymity.According to the notification, three days (September 10th to 12th) have been earmarked for discussion of the supplementary budget while the appropriate bill would be passed on September 17.The state government also plans to introduce and pass several legislations during the monsoon session of the assembly.The opposition Congress and BJP MLAs are expected to corner the state government over issues like missing keys of inner Ratna Bhandara of Puri Jagannath Temple, corruption allegations of newly constructed Gurupriya bridge, law and order situation, farm distress and poor health infrastructures in the state.
