Another spell of heavy rain likely to lash many parts of state on Sunday

Around 909 villages of 13 blocks of Kalahandi districts have been affected due to the heavy rain. The state government has started restoring the roads and other communications to the affected areas. Kantapada in Cuttack district received the highest 110mm rainfall in the state during this period. BHUBANESWAR: While rivers in spate have started receding, the worse may not be over yet. Similarly, water level of Devi river, Baitarani and Jalaka river were on the rise.Reservoir level of the Hirakud Dam in Sambalpur district was 613.31 ft at 6pm on Friday.

BHUBANESWAR: While rivers in spate have started receding, the worse may not be over yet. Heavy rainfall may occur in Malkangiri , Koraput, Balasore , Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Kendrapara districts of Odisha on Sunday under the influence of a fresh low pressure over the Bay of Bengal.The low pressure area formed over the sea will trigger chances of rainfall in the state at least for three days, said a latest forecast from India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bhubaneswar, on Friday.The IMD also forecast that heavy rainfall may occur on Monday and Tuesday at one or two places over Baragarh, Malkangiri, Koraput, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sundergarh, Sambalpur , Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Nuapada distrists of Odisha.According to the rainfall recorded by the IMD on Friday morning, many places in the state witnessed rainfall in past 24 hours. Kantapada in Cuttack district received the highest 110mm rainfall in the state during this period. The other places recorded major rainfalls on the day include Balipatna (90mm) on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar and Krishnaprasad (70mm) in Puri district.Evening bulletin of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) office said water level of Mahanadi River at Naraj was on the rise due to heavy rain on the upper catchment area of the river. Similarly, water level of Devi river, Baitarani and Jalaka river were on the rise.Reservoir level of the Hirakud Dam in Sambalpur district was 613.31 ft at 6pm on Friday. A total of 41,753 cusecs of water was being released through two gates of the dam against the inflow of 89,423 cusecs of water.Due to heavy rainfall in the state during last two days, districts like Kalahandi, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada and Kandhamal have been affected. Around 909 villages of 13 blocks of Kalahandi districts have been affected due to the heavy rain. Total seven people, three from Rayagada and two each from Koraput and Kalahandi, have lost their lives in the flood like situation.The district administrations have started providing shelter and cooked food to the affected people of the six districts. The state government has started restoring the roads and other communications to the affected areas.
