BHUBANESWAR: Six students were injured after two rival students' groups clashed over union election at BJB Autonomous College on Monday.The face-off was the continuation of an altercation on Saturday night, in which one group of students had exchanged heated words with another group on the candidates to be fielded for the election, scheduled to be held next month. Reports said the two groups clashed near the commerce block of the college on Saturday.On Monday, the students of the second group, with the help of outsiders, threatened Soumitri Batsal Dash - a member of the first group - against contesting the election. "Our rivals brought in outsiders to attack me near the science block. They also attacked my friends," said Dash.Six students from both the groups were injured. Later, police were deployed at the arts block, science block and administrative block. Prasanna Kumar Mohanty, principal of the college, said a student had lodged a complaint with the college authorities about the group clash. "We have received the complaint," he added.City DCP Anup Kumar Sahoo said three platoons of police had been deployed on the campus. "The situation is normal now. The campus is under our watch," he added.This college had cancelled the students' union polls in 2016 after two groups fought with each other. It had also cancelled the polls last year following student unrest.
