Former top govt official joins BJD

BHUBANESWAR: Former principal accountant general (AG) Amar Patnaik joined BJD in the presence of party president and chief minister Naveen Patnaik at the latter’s residence in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.As the ruling dispensation looks to increase its social media presence ahead of the forthcoming elections, Patnaik has been assigned to head the information technology (IT) cell of the party.Patnaik, an Indian Audit and Accounts Service (IA&AS) officer, had recently opted for voluntary retirement, nine years before completion of his service. Odisha apart, Patnaik had also served as principal accountant general of West Bengal and Kerala.Welcoming him to the party fold, Naveen said, “I am extremely happy that Patnaik has joined our party today. He has worked in many states and has rich administrative experiences. His joining will strengthen our party.”Patnaik is the third all India services officer after former Mumbai top cop Arup Patnaik and ex-all India Radio director general Giridhari Mohanty, who joined the ruling party since April, this year.The former top audit officer said the able leadership of the chief minister had inspired him to join the BJD.“It’s a leap of faith, a leap of conviction and a leap of confidence in the strong and able leadership of Naveen Babu.
