BJP asks Odisha to cut VAT on fuel

"The BJP government should cut the fuel price further to give relief to the common man. BHUBANESWAR: BJP on Friday staged demonstration at Lower PMG here, asking the state government to reduce value added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel by Rs 2.50 per litre following the Centre's move to cut the amount on fuel price . "Now it is turn of the state government to cut the VAT. "BJP-led Union government has cut the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 2.50. It shows their real face," he added.The BJD recently organised rally across the state, protesting against hike in fuel prices.

BHUBANESWAR: BJP on Friday staged demonstration at Lower PMG here, asking the state government to reduce value added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel by Rs 2.50 per litre following the Centre's move to cut the amount on fuel price . State government is charging 26% VAT on fuel.BJP workers led by party's Bhubaneswar unit president Harekrushna Khuntia came in a procession starting from BJP state headquarters to Master Canteen and staged a protest meeting at Lower PMG.Khuntia said the state government has been criticizing the Centre for not reducing the oil prices. "BJP-led Union government has cut the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 2.50. Why the state government is not reducing its VAT? It shows their real face," he added.The BJD recently organised rally across the state, protesting against hike in fuel prices."Now it is turn of the state government to cut the VAT. If the state government is pro-people, it should reduce the price immediately," he added.Finance minister Shashi Bhusan Behera told the media that they will examine the request of Union finance minister Arun Jaitley to reduce VAT. BJD spokesperson Sasmit Patra said the Centre's move is too little and too late. "The BJP government should cut the fuel price further to give relief to the common man."It is not sufficient as the fuel price has already touched Rs 80," he added.After the Centre's decision, rate of one litre of petrol and diesel was Rs 80.41 and Rs 78.37 respectively in Bhubaneswar on Friday.
