Hot and humid weather to continue in Odisha till October 8

BHUBANESWAR: Weather in October is supposed to be pleasant but surprisingly people in Bhubaneswar are witnessing a comparatively hotter and more humid weather condition making normal life difficult. This should be the most pleasant weather of the year but it seems like peak summer and the sun rays are so harsh and hot that it is literally unbearable. Weathermen attributed it to one week early withdrawal of Southwest monsoon and clear sky for the rise in temperature. But this year it has withdrawn totally from the state by the first week. Always apply sunscreen and wear sunglasses while going out,” said Pravat Panda, a city-based dermatologist.

BHUBANESWAR: Weather in October is supposed to be pleasant but surprisingly people in Bhubaneswar are witnessing a comparatively hotter and more humid weather condition making normal life difficult. Weathermen attributed it to one week early withdrawal of Southwest monsoon and clear sky for the rise in temperature. The met office has also predicted such condition will continue till October 8 after which rain is likely to occur under the influence of a low pressure.“Usually the southwest monsoon withdraws from the state in the second week of October. But this year it has withdrawn totally from the state by the first week. Absence of clouds in the sky has led to a minor increase in day temperature and presence of moisture in the atmosphere is causing humidity,” said director of IMD’s Bhubaneswar centre, H R Biswas.Biswas said, October being the transition period from monsoon to winter, so it is the day temperature in the city was 34.5 degree Celsius on Saturday about one degree above the normal while the night temperature of the city was 25.4 degree Celsius. The highest temperature of the state was recorded 36.2 degree Celsius at Sambalpur while the minimum temperature of 17.2 degree Celsius recorded at Koraput. However, a cyclonic circulation over the central Bay of Bengal, which is likely to intensify into a low pressure may trigger rain in most parts of the state from October 10. “Though days are hotter but nights are cooler and pleasant. There are chances of rain with thundershowers at one or two places in some districts but from October 10 there may be widespread rain,” said Biswas. Most people are seen covering their faces with wet towels or dupattas to protect from sunrays while going out during the day.“October is the autumn season just before the onset of winter season. This should be the most pleasant weather of the year but it seems like peak summer and the sun rays are so harsh and hot that it is literally unbearable. My six-year-old daughter has got sunburn due to the piercing and strong sun rays,” said Minakshi Mishra, a homemaker.Doctors advised to drink lots of liquid as the high humidity levels may cause dehydration.“Increasing your fluid intake may help in preventing dehydration. Besides, one should avoid oily and spicy food and take lots of fresh fruits, juices and fruits with water contents like cucumber , kiwi are good for health. Always apply sunscreen and wear sunglasses while going out,” said Pravat Panda, a city-based dermatologist.
