Traditional plays, bhajans find place to entertain people during Durga Puja

BHUBANESWAR: City Durga Puja committees will have plenty traditional things such as plays and bhajan (devotional song) to offer this time. Style of the drama will mesmerize the audience, he added.The Sahid Nagar puja committee has decided to organise ‘Mata Ka Jagaran’ to praise the Hindu goddesses. Nayapalli Durga Puja Committee has scaled up its Ramleela play while Saheed Nagar Durga Puja Committee will hold Mata Ki Jaagaran for the first time.Though most of the puja committees organise melody and dance programmes between Sasthi and Dashami puja, these two committees chose traditional route as a mark of respect to Odia culture.Mahendra Balabantaray, member of the Nayapalli Durga Puja committee, said they are organizing the Ramleela in a big way starting from Monday to Friday. The songs will create a devotional atmosphere at the worship place,” said Mohapatra.Other puja committees at Bomikhal, Station Bazaar and other places in the city will hold bhajan programmes to entertain the devotees and pandal hoppers. The play will start with birth of Lord Ram and their brothers and end with killing of demon king Ravana.

But we want to revive it for city audiences with some attractive light and sounds. City people will feel nostalgic after watching such drama in the city in open air pandal after several years,” said Balabantaray.He said the troupe belongs to Nayagarh area . Style of the drama will mesmerize the audience, he added.The Sahid Nagar puja committee has decided to organise ‘Mata Ka Jagaran’ to praise the Hindu goddesses. Last year, they had staged a Gitinatya (melodrama) ‘Ravana Baddha’ (killing of demon king Ravana) on the occasion of Vijaya Dashami.Committee secretary Narayan Mohapatra said the jagran will be staged behind the ground of Sahid Nagar Durga puja pandal on Friday. Main attraction of the jagran will be Anil Bawra from Mumbai. Six artists from Odisha will also join him in the performance, he added.“The singers will sing several bhajans and jagran songs to praise goddess Durga and other deities of the Hindus. The songs will create a devotional atmosphere at the worship place,” said Mohapatra.Other puja committees at Bomikhal, Station Bazaar and other places in the city will hold bhajan programmes to entertain the devotees and pandal hoppers.
