KORAPUT: The district administration on Thursday ordered a probe after a selfie taken by a doctor inside the operation theatre (OT) in an Odisha hospital, while a woman was giving birth, went viral on social media.The doctor, identified as Sasmita Das, was part of the team operating on the woman in the district headquarters hospital, Jeypore , on Wednesday. The selfie, which was widely circulated, shows Das in scrubs inside the OT with the operation under way in the background.When contacted, Das said it was the collective decision of those present in the OT to take the photograph as the operation was the first in the DHH since it moved from Koraput to its new campus at Phulobado.“The photo was uploaded on the DHH WhatsApp group. I don’t know how it got circulated on social media,” Das said. “We wanted to remember the moment. I never thought it would create problems. I apologise,” she said.“It is illegal to carry a mobile phone inside the OT, let alone taking a selfie. We will probe the circumstances in which the photo was clicked. Action will be taken after we get the report,” said Lalit Mohan Rath, chief district medical officer.
