Tour De Kalinga Cycle with a cause

BHUBANESWAR: Tour De Kalinga , the longest community cycling tour of the country covering 1300km in 13 days, will start from Bhubaneswar on December 8. The cyclists will travel several places on one route till Koraput and return to Bhubaneswar in a different route.As many as 30 cyclists from 15 states will form five teams before starting the expedition. Each team will have a captain to guide the cyclists. They will start their journey from capital Bhubaneswar and touch seaside tourist places like Konark, Puri, Satapada and cross Chilika lagoon with the help of vessel to reach Berhampur. Later they will go to Koraput by touching Chandragiri (Buddhist monastery area), Paralakhemundi and Rayagada like hilly areas.The troupe will return from Koraput to Bhubaneswar via forested areas like Tumudibandha, Belaghara Phulbani , Nayagarh and Khurda. “We will conduct a cycling competition from Tumudibandha to Belaghara, a 26-km-long hill road, during the return journey. They will make the people aware about ‘Youths for change’, ‘Eradicating corruption and build a new India’, Say no to tobacco’, ‘Say no to pollution’ and ‘Cycling a day keeps diabetics away’. Each team will meet community people during their tour and sensitise them about these issues, he added.Dash said the teams will have doctors, vigilance officers, army officer, lawyers, social activists and persons of other professions.“The other purpose of the tour is to establish the Bhubaneswar-Satapada-Chandragiri-Koraput-Phulbani-Bhubaneswar route a world-class eco-cycling corridor. During the tour, a tourist or cyclist can get the experience of beach, religious tourism, crossing over Chilika, rice fields, dealing with Buddhist people at Chandragiri, ride in dense forest, flower valley, cotton fields, meeting tribals and crossing hilly terrains of Eastern Ghat. Odisha has so much to offer in the 1300 km ride,” he added.It is the fourth tour of the Tour De Kalinga.
