Men's Hockey World Cup: Bhubaneswar gears up for cracker of an opener

"The opening ceremony of the Men's Hockey World Cup will create a benchmark for such events in future. It will be the perfect blend of sports and entertainment and will appeal to a global audience. Choreographed by Shiamak Davar, with an original music score by Ranjit Barot , it will feature Madhuri as the central character of Mother Earth or Bhu Devi. She will be supported by as many as 1,100 performers, including 800 college students of the city.Khan, meanwhile, will present India's 'collected hearts' - the culmination of a publicity campaign called HeartBeats for Hockey - to the captains of the 16 countries that will participate in the World Cup. It will also be streamed live on Facebook.

Bhubaneswar: November 27 promises to be a day the city will remember for years to come.The opening ceremony of the Men's Hockey World Cup will see Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit perform at the Kalinga Stadium , the venue of the tournament.Not just that, virtuoso composer A R Rahman and eminent poet and lyricist Gulzar will present a rendition of 'Jai Hind, Jai India', the official song of the World Cup."The opening ceremony of the Men's Hockey World Cup will create a benchmark for such events in future. It will be the perfect blend of sports and entertainment and will appeal to a global audience. The ceremony will focus on the 'oneness of humanity'. We want people to rejoice in their diversity, while coming together as one," said Nupur Mahajan, communications and strategy consultant for the World Cup, who has written and directed the opening show, estimated to be 1.5 hours long.The main act of the ceremony will be centred on Madhuri. Called Earth Song, it will showcase a multitude of performing arts - dance variations of contemporary, classical, jazz and ballet, as well as Indian forms such as Odissi and Sattriya. Besides, Odia actors Sabyasachi and Archita are expected to engage with the audience, and a short film on the heartbeats campaign will also be screened.The show will be telecast live on Doordarshan National, DD Sports and all the regional channels in the state. It will also be streamed live on Facebook.
