Balangir labourer beaten to death

By: Avinash MohantyBALANGIR: A construction labourer was allegedly beaten to death by two persons for delaying to go to work even after taking advance money from the accused. The deceased was identified as Jagdish Mirdha, who died while undergoing treatment at Santha Bhim Bhoi Medical College and Hospital (SBBMCH) in Balangir. One of the accused has been arrested.The incident happened in Dumerpadar village under Patanagargh police limits in Balangir district on Wednesday. He was admitted to SBBMCH, Balangir, but he succumbed to hsi injuries during treatment, Das added.Police said Jagdish had taken nearly Rs 1 lakh as advance from Bhawana and committed to work for him. We have forwarded Bhagwana to judicial custody where as Santi is still at large,” said Das.

The accused were identified as Bhagwana Bariha and Santi Bariha.Barini Das, Inspector in-charge, Patanagarh police station, said wife of the deceased lodged a complaint against both accused, alleging that her husband was beaten severely by the duo which caused his death.She mentioned in the FIR that on Wednesday morning Bhagwana and Santi took Jagdish along with them. When they dropped him (Jagdish) back at home, he was found unconscious. He was admitted to SBBMCH, Balangir, but he succumbed to hsi injuries during treatment, Das added.Police said Jagdish had taken nearly Rs 1 lakh as advance from Bhawana and committed to work for him. Neither Jagdish went to the work nor did he return the amount, said police.“We are waiting for postmortem report to come. We have forwarded Bhagwana to judicial custody where as Santi is still at large,” said Das.
