Two held for murder of Ganjam BJD leader

A motorcycle belonging to police was also damaged.Police said both men were involved in the murder of Sadananda Lenka (46), a local BJD leader, at College Square in Aska on the night of December 31. Lenka was the brother of Kharia panchayat sarpanch , Aurabindo Lenka.Besides the BJD leader’s murder, the men were reportedly involved in several crimes under different police stations, police said. They were first admitted in the community health centre in Aska and later taken to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here. BERHAMPUR: Two brothers wanted for the murder of a local BJD leader around a week ago were arrested at Palimala on the Aska-Balipadara Road in Ganjam district’s Aska police station limits on Monday morning.The accused — Kanhu Jena (23) and his brother Alekh (28) of Humuri village — sustained bullet injuries after engaging in a gun-battle with police. “We are verifying the crime record of the accused,” said Jena.
