Odisha CM flags off high-end Rajdhani bus services

BHUBANESWAR: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday flagged off the high-end Rajdhani bus services that would connect to various district headquarters and major towns from the state capital. As many as 23 buses will run to Phulbani, Rourkela, Bhawanipatna, Bhanjanagar , Rajgangpur (via Sundargarh), Rajkhariar (via Balangir), Gorumahisani (via Karanjia) and Burla (via Sambalpur) in the first phase.“Rest of the districts will be covered very shortly. In Rajdhani services, the passengers will have facilities like free wi-fi, CCTV, GPS tracking, mobile charging points and drinking water bottles on board,” said commerce and transport minister Nrusingha Sahu.The state transport department plans to run total 50 luxury buses between various district headquarters and major towns with comparatively less connectivity to the state capital in phased manner.The luxury deluxe buses by the state-owned Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) used for movement of players from hotels to stadium and to various tourist spots around the city during the recent Hockey World Cup. Official sources said each bus costs around Rs 55 lakh.Tickets for the Rajdhani Express can be booked online and though mobile app on smart phone.The chief minister also flagged off four numbers of VOLVO buses which will run from Bhubaneswar to Kolkata and Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh.At present, the OSRTC operates 429 buses in all the 30 districts and in 43 inter-state route covering Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh, official sources said.“The state-owned corporation has the distinction of plying more buses in left wing extremist-affected districts for the benefit of the common people,” said the minister.Stating that OSRTC has taken up construction of five new bus stands at Jeypore in Koraput , Balangir, Angul, Bamara in Sambalpur and Odagaon in Nayagarh and renovated 25 bus stands, the minister said it has been decided that the transport department would develop 50 model bus stands at block level in various districts.The OSRTC has also decided to augment the size of its fleet to 1000 buses in the next three years, official sources said.
