And she does it for a cause------ sensitize villagers about measles-rubella (MR) vaccination campaign so that they can get their kids vaccinated and save precious lives. BARWANI: She writes her songs, sings them and even dances to their tunes in attractive outfits to grab attention of her fellow villagers. Before working for the current MR campaign, she had also prepared songs for Swachhta Abhiyan, pulse polio, family planning and other schemes of government. A few teachers have also prepared songs for the campaign, but, Solanki is doing it in a very attractive way," Jain told TOI. BARWANI: She writes her songs, sings them and even dances to their tunes in attractive outfits to grab attention of her fellow villagers. And she does it for a cause------ sensitize villagers about measles-rubella (MR) vaccination campaign so that they can get their kids vaccinated and save precious lives. Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) Chandralata Solanki, who is posted in Barwani Khurd, had observed that due to lack of awareness, the villagers were not getting their children aged between 9 months and 15 years vaccinated against various diseases. So, she wrote some songs in local dialect, recorded them in her own voice at a studio and then started playing them to garner attention of villagers and create awareness among them about the diseases and vaccination."There are many misleading beliefs about vaccination among people in remote areas because of which they don't get their kids immunized. To make them aware of benefits of vaccination, I prepared songs in their own language and presented the same before them," said Chandralata. She has saved her songs in a pen drive and carries it along with her. Wherever she plays her songs, a huge crowd gathers around her. She even dances on her songs in attractive outfits. Her efforts have paid off well. The villagers are now coming forth to get their kids immunized and even children feel comfortable and ready for vaccination after hearing her songs. A large number of kids from nearby villages have also been immunized against viral infections. Now, she has become popular among villagers who consider her as brand ambassador of the campaign.Things, however, didn't come easy for Chandralata. She didn't get any monetary help for recording her songs, which cost her Rs5,500 per song. But thanks to support and encouragement of her husband, Onkar Singh, she was able to motivate the villagers."Many of my colleagues and some senior officers see my demonstration in a suspicious way, but I have got appreciation and encouragement from every section of society," Chandralata said.Lauding her efforts of creating awareness among villagers, CMHO Dr VB Jain said, "ANM Chandralata Solanki is doing great job of sensitizing people in rural areas about MR vaccination. A few teachers have also prepared songs for the campaign, but, Solanki is doing it in a very attractive way," Jain told TOI. "In Barwani district , 2.5 lakh children have been vaccinated so far," he said.Chandralata has been creating awareness about the importance of immunization for around four years now. Before working for the current MR campaign, she had also prepared songs for Swachhta Abhiyan, pulse polio, family planning and other schemes of government.
