Balasore: A Class VIII girl of a government-run residential school in Mayurbhanj district was allegedly raped inside the hostel premises by a Class X boy on Sunday evening, putting the spotlight firmly on lack of security in such institutions.The incident took place on the sidelines of Saraswati Puja celebrations in the school campus. Police said the 12-year-old girl, a hostel inmate, had gone to the bathroom when a 15-year-old boy, who had managed to jump the fence, saw her. While she was coming out, the boy forced her back into the toilet and raped her. Sources said the school did not have any security guard. The boy, who studied in a different school, was later arrested.Baripada Sadar police station inspector Swarnalata Minz said the matter came to light after the girl informed her family members about her ordeal. The girl’s aunt lodged a complaint with the police on Tuesday and demanded strict action against the accused. Police have registered cases against the youth and initiated investigation. Mayurbhanj SP Awinash Kumar said the hostel authorities are being questioned.
