Man arrested for 'raping' daughter

BERHAMPUR: A 42-year old man was arrested by the police for allegedly repeatedly raping his minor daughter at a village under Ganjam district’s Jarada police station limits on Thursday.The accused works as a labourer in Chennai. The survivor is a Class VIII student (14), elder daughter of the accused, he said. When we came to fact, we intimated to the district child protection officer (DCPO), child welfare committee and also police” said director Childline, here Sudhir Sabat. He was booked under different sections of the IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He would be forwarded to the court after conducting medical test, said inspector in charge, Jarada police station Mrutunjaya Swain.The accused is a father of three children.

She has been kept in a child care home after she was rescued by the activists of Childline, here.Police said taking the advantage of ignorance of the girl about sexual activities; he was keeping physical relationship with his daughter for last five years. He allegedly raped her while he came to village from his workplace time to time, police said.The matter came to light when the survivor discussed with her friends in the school. One of her friends informed about it to the Childline through the phone. ‘We have inquired about the matter. When we came to fact, we intimated to the district child protection officer (DCPO), child welfare committee and also police” said director Childline, here Sudhir Sabat.
