Class X examinee ‘gangraped’ by 5 in Cuttack

The Class X exams start from Friday.She told her rescuers that she had come to Cuttack along with two acquaintances from her village, a boy and a girl, to attend some rally in the city. The girl also alleged that she was held hostage in a house in Manglabag area and repeatedly raped since Saturday night. Cuttack: Just days before she is supposed to appear for her Class X board exams, a 15-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped by five unidentified youths, suspected to be engineering students in the city, after she was reportedly ‘sold’ by two of her acquaintances from her village in Angul. A medical examination was carried out at SCB Medical College and Hospital. It was around 1.30 pm on Tuesday that she managed to slip out of the room and managed to reach Cuttack railway station where she was noticed by Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel, sulking in a corner.

There, they were put up in a house. Later in the night, the boy and girl left and five youths entered the room and raped her.“The girl said she had accompanied two persons from her village to to attend a rally. But she was unable to say what the rally was about,”railway police station inspector-in-charge Umakanta Biswal said, adding “There was no such rally that we were aware of which had taken place in Cuttack on Saturday.”The girl made the allegations in the presence of the chairperson and members of Child Welfare Committee (Cuttack), district child welfare protection officer and the coordinator of Childline (Cuttack). A medical examination was carried out at SCB Medical College and Hospital. She is learnt to have external and internal injuries.CWC chairperson Mandakini Jena said, “Observing the condition of the survivor, especially the discomfiture in her walk, she was admitted to the gyanaecology department of the hospital for medical attention. We have already informed the Child Welfare Committee in Angul to trace the parents of the girl.”A case has been registered by the GRP under relevant provisions of POCSO Act and the IPC on the basis of a complaint lodged by Childline. Narayan Shukla, coordinator of Childline, said the girl alleged that the two with whom she had come to Cuttack had handed her over to the five youths for money.“She was unable to give details about the five youths except for stating that they were staying in the house in which she was confined and there were engineering books in the room,” Shukla added.EoM
