50 model booths to come up in Cuttack

Cuttack: Altogether 50 model polling booths will be set up for the simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly elections in Cuttack district.These booths that aim to make voting comfortable and attract more voters will have air coolers to beat the April heat, waiting lounges, proper illumination, first-aid kits, fire extinguishers, crèche facilities as well as toilets.“Women, physically-challenged persons and senior citizens will be given priority to vote at the model booths,” said district collector Arvind Agarwal.More importantly, there will be ramps for the ‘divyangs’ and volunteers to guide voters. The ramps will facilitate their movement. Voters, particularly senior citizens can wait in the lounge to avoid the exhaustion of standing in a queue,” said deputy collector Prabodh Rout.Micro-observers and photographers will be deployed at these booths.Besides, there will be web cast from the booths that officials at the chief electoral officer’s office can view on a real-time basis.

This apart, 350 booths have been identified as sensitive where more number of policemen will be deployed and CCTVs installed to avoid any untoward incident, added Rout.Cuttack district that will go to the polls in the third phase on April 23 has 20,29,855 lakh voters, including 10,61,862 men and 9,67,740 women.
