25 workers ‘trapped’ in TN, kin seek cop help to get them back

Koraput: Families of 25 labourers from Koraput’s Kundura block have moved the police to rescue them alleging that they are being harassed at their workplace in Tamil Nadu.
The labourers from Sisaguda, Kermiti and Padarkonta villages left for Tamil Nadu with the agent and were engaged in a poultry farm at Malapalayam under Monar police station limits.“Though it is almost three months, my son is yet to be paid by the employer.
They alleged that some of them have fallen sick and are being forced to work without pay.According to sources, nearly three months back one Ghanshaym Bhatt of Kosagumuda in Nabarangpur district lured the labourers to the southern state on the promise of higher wages and better life.
The employer says that the agent has taken six months salary as advance and after six months he will pay wages to my son,” alleged Arjun Durua, father of Komolu, one of the labourers.Police said that the agent has been detained for interrogation and necessary action is being taken in consultation with the labour department to ensure the safe return of the labourers.
