Liquor worth Rs 224 cr seized since March 10

On Saturday, Rs 31 lakh cash and 9,316 litres of liquor worth Rs 42 lakh have been seized. The flying squad seized Rs 8 lakh from Patnagarh in Balangir district while Rs 3 lakh was seized from a place in Subarnapur district.“The flying squad led by an executive magistrate made the seizure. Bhubaneswar: The joint flying squads comprising executive magistrate and police have seized Rs 2.24 crore worth of liquor and Rs 77 lakh cash from different districts of the state since the elections were notified on March 10, according to sources in the office of the chief electoral officer. Few persons have been detained for questioning,” said a police officer.Another squad seized Rs 34.24 lakh cash from a car bearing West Bengal registration number at Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district. Three persons have been detained.Police since March 10 have arrested 6,608 people against whom non-bailable warrants had been pending.

Further investigation is on,” said SP (Subarnapur) Debi Prasad Das. The cash was found hidden in cars and the possessors of the cash couldn’t explain the reason behind carrying it.“It is too early to attribute it to any political party. Investigation will reveal the details.
