Maniabandhi cotton fabrics is produced in Maniabandha area inBaramba block of Cuttack district and according to the area of production, it is called “Maniabandhai Cotton Saree”. Maniabandhi cotton saree is generally produced with 2/80s, 2/100s & 2/120s mercerized cotton yarn. Among Maniabandhi cotton saree, Rekhabuti saree, body bandha sarees, chagal, jharana and nabarangi sarees are the main varieties of maniabandhi cotton sarees. Besides, production of cotton sarees, cotton stole, dupatta, scarf and ladies dress materials are also produced in maniabandha area as per the market demand. Maniabandhi cotton sarees and dress materials have a good demand in the local and outside market.

Odisha, the land of art & culture is world famous for its handlooms & handicrafts products since centuries. It has a rich tradition of handloom products especially, the Odisha “Tie & dye” (Ikat) fabrics. Sambalpuri & Sonepuri bandha sarees. Khandua silk sarees of Nuapatna, Ikat bed sheet of Bargarh and Maniabandhi Cotton saree of Maniabandha area in Cuttack district are the famous traditional Ikat fabrics of Odisha. Maniabandhi cotton fabrics is produced in Maniabandha area in Baramba block of Cuttack district and according to the area of production, it is called “Maniabandhai Cotton Saree”. Maniabandha is situated around 80Kms away from the district head quarter of Cuttack. Around 990 nos. of weaver families of Maniabandha area are engaged in production of this products. Majority of weavers in Maniabandha village are traditionally Budhists community who are said to have migrated from Bardhwan district of West Bengal before 7th Century AD. They were rehabilitated in Manibandh Village by the king of Barambagarh to earn their livelihood through weaving. The people have been weaving varieties of cloths to cater the local needs. This has started attracting Budhist pilgrims and tourists to visit the village. Maniabandhi cotton saree is generally produced with 2/80s, 2/100s & 2/120s mercerized cotton yarn. Tie & dye yarn is used in both warp and weft to give tie & dye effect in border, anchal & body of the sarees. Sarees, dress materials and long thana etc. are the main products of the area. The fabric is generally ornamented with dobby design to give a good look to the fabrics. Among Maniabandhi cotton saree, Rekhabuti saree, body bandha sarees, chagal, jharana and nabarangi sarees are the main varieties of maniabandhi cotton sarees. Presently, new products like Kargil, computer design and hyco sarees are produced by the weavers which have high demand in the market. Maniabandhi fabrics are basically a weft ikat design products. Green, blue, orange, grey black, maroon, brown, light colour of synthetic dyes are generally used for production of the fabrics. Some Ikat fabrics are produced by using natural dyes extracted from herbs, roots and different parts of trees and minerals. As it is a low cost handloom products in compare to the Sambalpuri Ikat, people are appreciated Maniabandhi cotton fabrics for their daily use as well as in festive occasion. Generally, floral and animinal and fish motifs are used in tie & dye fabrics. Besides, production of cotton sarees, cotton stole, dupatta, scarf and ladies dress materials are also produced in maniabandha area as per the market demand. Apart from Ikat weaving, the weavers of maniabandha are producing extra weft fabrics. Maniabandhi cotton sarees and dress materials have a good demand in the local and outside market. Weavers are not facing any problem in selling their products. They are selling their products through nearby primary weaver cooperative societies, SHGs, Master weavers. Organisation like Boyanika, Utkalika, Sambalpuri Bastralaya, Serifed are purchasing these products and selling through their sale outlets functioning in and outside the state. For the development of the cluster and weavers of Maniabandha areas, State and Govt. of India is providing assistance under different developmental schemes. Related Comments comments
