Far Away From The Jitters, Into The Arms Of Nature, Where Nature Only Rules

A very refreshing transition from the boisterous city lives into the arms of nature. Away from the jitters over the killer virus and the cacophony in the news channels by `netas`. The inherent splendor and the majestic aura of a wet morning on the hills was enough for a nature lover to romanticise the moments. When the summer sizzles the days, a pre-dawn break at the top of Kalinga Ghat, in Kandhamal district of Odisha, as the nature gets governed by nature only, a respite descends on the hills.   We left the district town Phulbani almost at pre-dawn, all of us bleary-eyed due to lack of sleep. Suddenly we saw the Northen sky partially covered by dark clouds, the early Sun blinking among the gaps and it was an early sign of a rain. A rain at that time, on the hills, there could not have been a better respite.

It was a climb up, interspersed with myriad tracks, meandering through the treacherous turnings, we were up at the peak almost, looking down into more than 300 feet through the precipitous slopes.

Where Hills Speak

It started drizzling and the passing clouds at that height were practically caressing objects below. As the dawn was creeping into a hazy day break, yet the entire valley was bathing in the rains, water falling from leaves creating a mirage of ear-drop pearls, an ethereal mysticism of nature soaked in marvels. It was really a refreshing change from the stereotype reporting, and embarking on an environment that one can feel and touch.

And Bliss Reigns

The entire landscape was dissolved in the hazy horizon. A perplexing tranquility everywhere minus the sound of our vehicle and,  as if, for miles there was a reign of silence, a loneliness that of years , enveloping the vast and unending  expanse. For us, if there was anything, that was thrill and bliss of solitude, far away from the madding crowd. Moments, those can trigger the literary genre in anyone who is a keen observer of the nature. Chirping of birds could be faintly heard from the thick wet-foliage and a stroll at the peak point had many more wonders to reveal.

There were insects serenading the nature through the humming , croak of frogs, slowly emerging from the proverbial hibernation to celebrate the wet climate, teasing the creative potentials of the unconscious minds even. At that 3000 feet height, the clouds caress the entire living organism around and one can touch them and see the magic as they float through the terrains. Which we could feel with amusement and wonder. The theme of the horizon slowly deepens as clouds fly high. A surrealism that raises questions in the mind like, ‘who created it’. There must be someone, somewhere, who gifted us with this unconquerable spectacle which, now, we have started to abuse. When seasons change, from one to the other, it was earlier called change in climate, that connoted joy and mirth.

But, now the connotation of ‘climate-change’ has transformed into a nightmare in the build-up, that may finish all that we still celebrate in the name of nature.
