Universities in state of Odisha are unlikely to go with Khallikote University, Berhampur decision to abbreviate the admission and course fees for PG students this year. As per Vice Chancellors (VC) of other universities their fees is affordable and they won’t slash it.

SM Patnaik, VC, Utkal University stated ‘’there is no plan to slash the admission fees. Utkal University is a huge affiliating university and it has thousands of students. It is not feasible for us to reduce the admission’’. The state has 12 public universities along with Odisha State Open University (OSOU).

Srikant Mohapatra, Vice-Chancellor, OSOU, stated ‘’we charge an admission fee of INR 5000 per year for master’s degree course, INR 3000 per annum for bachelor’s degree course and INR 2000 for six month certificate course. It is very less compared to other open universities and public universities. Besides we have to pay our employees and spend money on other educational needs. So we will not reduce admission fees’’.

Some VC’s also stated that Khallikote University is offering less number of PG courses and admits less number of students in comparison to big universities like Utkal University, Sambalpur University and Berhampur University. As per the VC of a university ‘’it (Khallikote) was charging high amount of fees earlier from the students. Now they have reduced the fees to attract more students’’.

One of the senior higher education department official stated that universities themselves take the decision regarding fee structure of their course.
