In many cases like start-ups to even established ones, you cannot stop eyebrows being raised at either entrepreneurs or people with an ideal pursuit in many fields. But they have often been put on the mat by a volley of successes of the same organizations whom they mock at.

Transcending the codes of introductions, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar, has become one of the most sought after universities of the country with a diverse student body of about 30,000.

Defying The Odds

Odds had been there, many and KIIT has been somehow continuing to defy the displeasures of its detractors and enemies through its display of hard work and tenacious resolutions to emerge as a leader in the field of knowledge and career building.

Besides world-class academics that attracts students from all parts of India and over 53 countries, the university is known for its student-friendly culture that is anchored on the principles of compassion and humanity.

For its founder Dr Achyut Samant, KIIT, which was established in 1992-93, as a modest vocational training centre by eminent educationist and social activist, it was nearly a dream come true as an institute of higher learning in 1997, which is considered as the base year.

Since then KIIT has grown exponentially, setting a high benchmark in each area of education as it has been a stint of  23 years hence, as an institution for professional education (started in 1997) and 16 years old as a university (declared in 2004).

However, despite being a very young university, it has achieved impressive positions in various benchmark global university rankings, besides Institution of Eminence' recognition from the Govt. of India.

Institution of Eminence (IoE) is an ambitious scheme of the government of India that seeks to develop 10 select universities each from the public and private sector into world-class teaching and research institutions. KIIT has been achieving an impressive position in international arena like QS and Times Higher Education (THE).

Further, it is the first Indian university to get internationalization Strategies Advisory Service (ISAS) Badge from the International Association of Universities (IAU), an important milestone.

As a global centre of excellence, KIIT has collaborated with 192 international universities and institutions. These collaborations have led to joint programme delivery besides faculty and student exchange.  It was conferred ' A' category university status in 2015 by the Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India.

KIIT comprises of 28 constituent schools imparting globally recognised bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programmes in 200 plus disciplines, spanning from engineering, medicine, management, biotechnology and law and more.

 Mentoring Matters

Every programme is designed to ensure that students achieve the desired level of knowledge, skill and attitude, specific to a particular area or domain.  The objective of each course and its sequential delivery is designed in such a way that, the programmed outcome is achieved.

Following this principle, KIIT has placed a strong emphasis on creating enabling infrastructure and facilities for advanced research in diverse areas. It is among the only seven institutions in India selected by Boeing India for its Boeing University Innovation Leadership Development (BUILD) programme, to boost aerospace entrepreneurship. Furthermore, KIIT has been ranked 1st among self-financing institutions of India in the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) 2020, published by the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India.

Research accomplishments of the faculty and students demonstrate the positive impact of KIIT's focus on research and innovation. Currently, nearly 100 research and consultancy projects are funded by various national and international funding agencies.

 Unmatched Exposure

Students of KIIT get unmatched exposure by attending and interacting with eminent academicians, legal luminaries, corporate leaders, policymakers and scientists, who come to attend academic conferences, seminars and workshops that are organized around the year.

Significantly, so far, 20 Nobel Laureates have visited KIIT and delivered talks under Nobel Lecture Series and KIIT Knowledge Tree, which are some unique initiatives aimed at providing exposure to the students.

Adding another feather in the hat, KIIT team emerged as a strong contender in the prestigious automobile design competition organized by BAJA SAE as well as the Aeronautical Design competition - ' Aero Design West&#39. In addition, numerous research papers authored by students have also been published in reputed national and international journals.
