The issue is not merely the piece of land but, the thing called, politics, perhaps, one of the most notorious inventions by the politicians themselves in which they get trapped in`

From an issue over ego and, of course, political insecurity, the row in between the Bharatiya Janata Party vice president, Baijayant Panda and the chief minister has boiled down to a politically charged situation where the former faces the legal axe which may send him and his wife Jagi Mangat to jail.

Often resorting to jibes to an implausibly personal level, Panda now encounters a very unenviable situation by taking on the state’s highest political authority head-on.

Jay Panda, now a BJP national vice president,  is now against a political headwind and yet, seems refusing to summon the much-required composure at a time when he knows that, the bonhomie between the Prime Minister and Naveen Patnaik is still alive although, not as vocally as it used to be a year or so back.

It could be borring to recap the chronological details of the rows down the last couple of years but, the most recent one being on an alleged ‘fraudulent’ means adopted by Baijayant and his wife, who heads the number one Odia news channel here, in the purchase of a huge piece of land in a place called, Sarua, for their jointly owned company Odisha Infra-Tech Private Ltd(OIPL).

The matter reached Odisha high court following an FIR when the above couple prayed for a stay till November 12  against an arrest. However, now that, reportedly, the court has denied any further stay against arrest, the couple may face arrest over the alleged land scam and it still hangs like a sword on them.

It has been alleged that the couple had resorted to a kind of proxy tactics to buy the land through another man, a driver in profession and how could the later had possession over it has remained the moot basis of the allegation. The crux is, the piece of land in question is traced back to some dalits and which is the bigger violation under the existing rules.

But the couple has allegedly papered over all the cracks and went ahead with their work of OIPL at Sarua, rather than making an admission.

Instead of an endeavor to wriggle out of the legal web, it is being made more belligerent in essence forcing the Pandas up the wall and defend themselves. Roping in leaders like Ram Madhav of the BJP, as Devil’s advocate, can only make things tough for the Pandas as the state’s Crime Branch is doing the probe and, understandably, the latter may be under certain compulsions to expedite the actions.

But, now the entire issue has contentiously uncoiled to a huge legal row, where the said high profile couple finds itself in a jinx and i.e arrest. Which has gained steam after the High Court removed the protection against the arrest of the above couple.

The issue is not merely the piece of land but, the thing called, politics, perhaps, one of the most notorious inventions by the politicians themselves in which they get trapped in.
