Bhubaneswar sizzles at 44.6 deg C, records hottest day in march since 1948

Bhubaneswar recorded a temperature of 44.6 degree celsius on Wednesday 31 March. The state will face extreme heat for the next two to three days according to the Meteorological Department.

Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha, recorded the highest temperature in the state. Normal life has been disrupted in the city due to the intense heatwave. The maximum temperature has increased by 4 degrees Celsius since Tuesday.


Bhubaneswar registered the highest temperature in March for the first time since 1948. The city’s previous high of 42.2 degrees C was recorded on March 21, 2016, said officials of the Regional Meteorological Centre.

According to the regional meteorological centre, other places in the state where temperatures have been recorded above 40 degrees Celsius include Baripada (43.6), Balasore (43) and Chandbali (42.6), Talcher & Malkangiri 42.5 and Gajapati, Boudh 42. Angul settled at 41.7 degrees Celsius, 41.5 was recorded in Bolangir and Bhawanipatna, while 41.2 degrees was registered at Titlagarh and Nayagarh.
