Odisha: Puri Jagannath Temple turns COVID hotspot, 23 Covid-19 cases reported

23 people associated with the Jagannath temple, including seven servants, have tested positive for Covid-19. It is feared that the shrine of Shridham may be closed for all the devotees coming from outside.

The second wave of the corona virus continues to wreak havoc across the country. The covid-19 outbreak is getting scary with each passing day in the coastal state of Odissa. 23 people associated with the Jagannath temple, including seven servants, have tested positive for Covid-19. It is feared that the shrine of Shridham may be closed for all the devotees coming from outside.

According to information provided by the Puri District Health Department, 53 new positive cases of Covid-19 were found in the entire district of Odisha on Tuesday, out of which 23 people are associated with the Jagannath temple. According to the information, seven servants and three members of their family have been infected. Eight people employed in the shoe stand of the Jagannath temple, three employees of the Shrimandir administration, a policeman from Sridham and 23 people including a gardener have tested positive for the corona virus.

Apart from this, a 13-year-old minor tourist was also found Covid-19 positive at Puri Railway Station

It is feared that the administration may close the doors for pilgrims coming from outside states or the temple may be closed for all pilgrims after such a large number of Covid-19 cases have been found at Jagannath Dham.

Puri District Magistrate Samarth Verma said that this condition has been imposed for people coming from five states (Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Punjab and Kerala). Varma said, "We have made RT-PCR test report mandatory for people coming to Puri from these five states. The final vaccination certificate will also be verified, ”he said. Besides, special arrangements have been made at the railway station for the Kovid-19 screening of passengers from these five states.

According to the I &PR department, Odisha on Monday witnessed the biggest spike of 1784 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours. Of the total 1784 cases, Nuapada district reported a maximum of 303 cases, followed by Sundergarh (241), Khordha (201) and Bolangir (91).
53 cases have been reported from different parts of Puri district in the past 24 hours, tweeted I &PR department.
