Scheduled 2nd dose of Covid-19 vaccine postponed as stocks dry up in Odisha

The pace of Covid-19 vaccination in Odisha has taken a hit. Even those arriving to take the scheduled second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine in many private hospitals and clinics of the state could not take the dose amid the shortage of vaccines.

Odisha is facing a severe shortage of Covishield vaccines, due to which the recipients would have to wait for one week to get their second dose. A senior official of the Department of Health and Family Welfare said on Thursday that the state needs 6.3 lakh doses to give the scheduled second jibe to people, while it has only 1.1 lakh doses. "We are unable to apply the second dose of vaccine to people over the age of 45," he said. to the current shortage of vaccines

Considering the current shortage of vaccines, the state government is not able to ascertain whether the third phase of vaccination can be started from May 1.

"We can plan this phase only after knowing about the available stock of vaccine with the state government," said Bijay Panigrahi, director of family welfare.

Meanwhile, the East Coast Railway (ECOR) reported that it has decided to cancel three special trains under its jurisdiction till further orders given the deteriorating Covid-19 situation.

The trains which have been cancelled include Visakhapatnam-Raigad-Visakhapatnam Special and Visakhapatnam-Gunupur-Visakhapatnam Special.

ECOR also said in a statement that the Oxygen Express of Indian Railways will continue to supply oxygen on mission mode.
