Bhubaneswar: 14-day lockdown in Odisha starts today, Details of all curbs and exemptions

The lockdown and weekend curfew will not apply to any election-related work. For example, the movement of personnel involved in the by-election to the Pipili assembly seat will continue, the election is to be held on May 16 in Pipli.

The Naveen Patnaik government of Odisha has decided to impose a complete lockdown for 14 days. The government has taken this step because of the massive surge in new cases of Covid-19. In an order issued by Chief Secretary SC Mohapatra, it has been said that essential services will be available on all other days except weekends.

According to the official order, people will be allowed to buy necessary things within the radius of 500 meters of their houses between 6 am and 12 noon. During weekends, they will be able to get out of the house only for medical services. The lockdown and weekend curfew will not apply to any election-related work. For example, the movement of personnel involved in the by-election to the Pipili assembly seat will continue, the election is to be held on May 16 in Pipli.

The order said that the purpose of the lockdown is to control the movement of common people and there will be no restriction on vehicles carrying goods.

During this time, all cinema halls, malls, market complexes, sports complexes, swimming pools, entertainment parks, salons, theatres, parks, bars, auditoriums, assembly halls, Meera Bazaar in Odisha will all remain closed. All social, political, sports, cultural, religious and other gatherings have been banned. Permission is granted to distribute the newspaper between 5 am to 8 am

Coronavirus continues to wreak havoc in Odisha. Odisha reported 8216 fresh cases of Covid-19 on Monday, while 15 people succumbed to the deadly virus. The active cases tally mounted to 73,548 in the coastal state.

Cuttack district received 447 fresh cases of Covid-19 on Monday.
Khurda District, which includes capital Bhubaneswar, received the highest 1271 new cases.
