The Naveen Patnaik government of Odisha is doing everything possible to treat the corona patients in the state. In the same sequence, new critical care beds have been arranged for people facing the problems of beds. The government has decided to add 438 critical care beds, including 70 high dependency units (HDUs), to eight Covid dedicated hospitals at the earliest.

ICU and HDU beds were installed at Sundargarh Medical College, Vikas Multispeciality Hospital in Bargarh, Ispat General Hospital in Rourkela, Bandhabhal Hospital in Jharsuguda, Covid Center in Kalahandi Engineering College, Hitech Hospital and KIMS Hospital in Bhubaneswar and SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Sources said, out of 3,049 ICU / HDU beds, about 80 % of the beds in Sundergarh, Sambalpur, Nayagarh, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Jharsuguda, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur are filled with Covid patients, while Covid Hospital in Balangir is completely full. Out of 975 ventilator-equipped beds in the state, 608 are occupied with patients.

Additional Chief Health Secretary PK Mohapatra said that there is no shortage of common beds in hospitals and oxygen beds in Covid Care Centers (CCCs) and Covid Care Homes (CCHs). The government has also decided to stop plasma therapy on Covid patients following the instructions of the Center as per the recommendation of the Covid-19 Task Force of AIIMS / ICMR.
