Cyclone Yaas moving towards Odisha Coast, IMD issues Red Warning in 8 districts

Cyclonic storm `Yaas` may knock on the coast of Bengal and Odisha today. It is expected to cross northern Odisha-West Bengal between Paradip and Sagar Islands by evening as a very severe storm.

There is a danger of cyclonic storm YAAS in the eastern coastal areas of the country. The cyclonic storm Yaas in the Bay of Bengal is expected to knock in the coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal today. According to the India Meteorological Department, the low-pressure area created in the East Central region of the Bay of Bengal has turned into a cyclonic storm. It is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm in the next 24 hours.

The cyclone is predicted to move slowly towards the north-northwest and turn into a severe cyclonic storm during the next 24 hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the cyclone to cross north Odisha-West Bengal coasts on 26 May as a severe cyclonic storm.

Umashankar Das, senior scientist of IMD Bhubaneswar said, `Yaas` can turn into a very severe cyclonic storm by May 25. It is likely to touch the coast between Paradip and Sagar Island. A warning has been issued especially for Paradip and Dhamra. Wind speeds in Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Baleswar will be 150-160 km / h. A warning has been issued for them. Wind speeds in Puri, Cuttack, Jaspur and Mayurbhanj will remain 120-130 km / h.

IMD has issued a red warning in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar; heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur in these districts.
