Odisha CM relief fund receives Rs 50 lakh from US-based organisation

A US-based organisation has donated around Rs 50 lakh to the Odisha Chief Minister`s Relief Fund to help the state deal with the Covid-19 pandemic. The organization `Our Biswas` has been founded by Joyasree Mahanti of Odia origin.

A US-based organisation has donated around Rs 50 lakh to the Odisha Chief Minister`s Relief Fund to help the state deal with the Covid-19 pandemic. The organization `Our Biswas` has been founded by Joyasree Mahanti of Odia origin.

She is working for women empowerment in different parts of Odisha since 2008. According to the organization`s website, through a program of trust and support, this organization works for the economic empowerment of women and girls living in extreme poverty around the world.

Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Sanjeev Chopra said in a statement that the organization has donated Rs 49.89 lakh to the relief fund. At the same time, Mahanti said, "The situation of Covid-19 in Odisha is under control due to timely decision-making and appropriate action." He expressed confidence that with everyone`s cooperation, the state will be able to beat Covid-19.

Let us tell you, the second wave of corona in Odisha had wreaked havoc. Thousands of new cases were being registered daily in the state, while the death toll is also a matter of concern. Although now the second wave has slowed down, cases are still coming to the fore. In the last 24 hours, more than 8 thousand new cases have been reported in Odisha. At the same time, 37 people have succumbed to the virus.
