Odisha`s renowned economist turned environmentalist and Padma Shri awardee Radha Mohan (78) passed away on Friday

Odisha`s renowned economist turned environmentalist and Padma Shri awardee Radha Mohan (78) passed away on Friday. He was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bhubaneswar for respiratory problems. PM Modi has condoled the death of Padma Shri awardee Radha Mohan.

Radhamohan was awarded the Padma Shri, India`s fourth highest civilian honour, for his work in agriculture along with his daughter last year. He was credited for his efforts to convert a degraded piece of land into a vast food forest in Odisha`s Nayagarh district using only organic techniques.

The father-daughter duo started Sambhav as a resource center for farmers across the country to learn organic farming techniques and exchange seeds. It is noteworthy that Late Professor Radha Mohan was also the former Information Commissioner of Odisha State.

Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik and other eminent personalities have expressed deep condolences on the demise of Padma Shri awardee Radha Mohan.

Radha Mohan was born on 30 January 1943 in Rangani Patna village of Nayagarh district. He completed his schooling in Odgaon and graduated with Honors in Economics from SCS College, Puri. He earned a master`s degree in Applied Economics from Utkal University in 1965.
