A shameful incident has surfaced from the Jajpur district of Odisha where a father sold his two-and-half-year-old daughter to pay a debt of only Rs 5000.

A shameful incident has surfaced from the Jajpur district of Odisha where a father sold his two-and-half-year-old daughter to pay a debt of only Rs 5000.

In a complaint lodged with the Binjharapur police station on Saturday, Rabindra Barik accused his son of smuggling his granddaughter. He also lodged a complaint against Litu Jena, the person who bought the girl.

The child`s grandfather Ravindra Barik had been searching for his granddaughter for a long time when he felt that something was wrong and asked his son Ramesh about the girl then he revealed the whole story.

Ramesh borrowed five thousand rupees from Litu Jena. Due to the bad financial condition of Ramesh, he was not in a position to repay the loan, but there was constant pressure being put on him by Litu Jena. Litu Jena had come to Ramesh`s house several times and demanded to give back the loan.

According to media reports, last month Ramesh beat up his wife and threw her out of the house. There was a fight between husband and wife over alcohol. When the wife stopped her husband from drinking alcohol, he started beating her.

Station in-charge Amarendra Das said that the police team raided Jena`s house and rescued the girl.
