Renowned Odia singer Tapu Mishra succumbs to Covid-19

Eminent Odia playback singer Tapu Mishra passed away. Tapu Mishra was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, Odisha for the last few days.

Eminent Odia playback singer Tapu Mishra passed away. Tapu Mishra was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, Odisha for the last few days.

Initially, Tapu defeated Covid-19 but later after recovering she started having problems again and her lungs were also damaged to a great extent. She was on a ventilator for the last two days before her death. Her oxygen level had dropped to 45.

Tapu`s father also succumbed to Covid-19. Tapu was also admitted to the hospital on May 19, 9 days after her father`s death. The family members of Tapu Mishra were planning to get her admitted to ECMO in Kolkata as she was not getting much benefit from the treatment being given in the hospital and her condition remained critical.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has condoled the death of Tapu on Twitter, "I am saddened to learn of the death of popular singer Tapu Mishra. The fame he has established in the world of Oriya music will always be remembered by him. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and wish them well``.

Tapu sang more than 500 songs and won four State Filmfare Awards. Tapu Mishra sang songs not only in Odia but also in Bengali, Hindi and other regional languages. She also started her own channel on YouTube. Tapu made her debut in the film industry in 1995 with Himanshu Parija`s Kula Nandan.
